SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production + #TOGETHERBAND Giveaway

Slow fashion is important to us all year round. But slowing down both making and buying is particularly important to refocus our energies on during the festive period, where the temptation for shopping sprees is as moreish as the mulled wine.

So in the run-up to Christmas (and of course Black Friday), we are showcasing our support for UN Sustainable Development Goal number 12: 'Responsible Consumption and Production'.

What are the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development?

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are described as a 'shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet'. A collection of 17 goals, their overall aims are to alleviate poverty and inequality and to protect and restore the environment for future generations through international collaboration, by the year 2030.

Pretty ambitious, right?

Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

The 12th sustainable development goal is all about ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns across all industries. Here in fashion land, it's more important than ever that we are reducing the speed and volume at which we're making clothes, and as customers, slowing down the amount we buy and opting for sustainable brands rather than 'fast fashion' is key.

Currently, progress towards achieving this goal by 2030 is still way too slow - in fact, global material consumption is still on the rise! We think a huge draw that will point more brands and consumers towards slow fashion is to promote sustainability without sacrificing style. Everyone has the right to look and feel good - hey, fashion should be fun! But we can no longer ignore the impact of our wardrobes on the planet - so let's get to work.

Here at / id /, we are committed to achieving zero waste in all parts of our supply chain. From buying fabrics and producing collections in small batches to creating one-of-a-kind & made-to-order pieces, we ensure we're only making what our customers really need.

Because the environmental impact of clothing is largely in the wear and care stage,  we stay away from gimmicky trends and fads, instead design timeless collections made from quality materials to withstand the ever-changing winds of fast fashion.

Our made-to-order pieces can be customised to enable customers to be emotionally involved in the creation of something totally unique, designed to be cherished for years to come.

A great example is our unique new Annabelle Asymmetric Ruffle Dress, which is crafted from deadstock remnants of chiffon fabric. We're also embracing the sustainable fashion movement with our new handmade jacket, the Ava Off White Trench, made with a leftover linen-mix remnant.

    #TOGETHERBAND Giveaway

    #togetherband

#TOGETHERBAND is a brand creating unique bracelets representing the spirit of each of the Sustainable Development Goals. Crafted from recycled ocean plastic, 1kg of plastic is removed from marine environments to make every band. The bottletop style clasp is made from reclaimed metal from decommissioned seized illegal firearms in Central America, helping to end armed violence and rebuild conflict-torn societies.

100% of the proceeds from each band is donated to charity - for the Goal 12 band, the cause is City Harvest, who aim to eliminate food poverty and food waste in London.

We wanted to celebrate responsible consumption and production by giving away a free #TOGETHERBAND pack worth £25 (which contains two bracelets - one to keep and one to share) containing the Goal 12 style in mustard yellow.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply head over to the / id / Instagram, give us a follow and tag a friend that you'd like to share your second bracelet with in the comments and tell us about 1 simple change that can easily change bad consumption habits! The winner will be announced on Friday, 29th November - good luck!
